Third Year Work

Trying to remember about this project particularly the end is slightly hard as it was towards the time of my accident that I was going to give my work to the third year team I had decided to work for and since the crash I don’t really remember to much about it.

I remember originally being approached by Kirk early in the assignment, he had a very professional looking project involving great locations, high quality RED cameras and a fairly interesting story. He asked me to help composite and whatever 3D work that he would decide as he needed it, I was very eager to work on it but unfortunately the bulk of my assigned work wasn’t until the end of the project, I didn’t really concentrate and assumed he would approach me soon with work so didn’t worry and worked on other personal projects, soon the end of the assignment was coming up and heard the Marc needed work done. He was extremely happy to receive my help as he had seen me helping people working on his team with modelling and I was very happy to work on his project, I enjoyed the idea and like the theme and style. I modelled some larger more time consuming parts such as a train turntable, train carriages and I was going to help composite but I was emitted to the hospital before I could give him my work and help him in post. Unfortunately I don’t know what has happened to his project yet.

I have a couple screenshots of my work, these aren't the final pieces as they were saved on the campus computers before my accident. I also have copies of previous work but not the latest on my hardrive but im still waiting for the police to release it. I also have a train turntable and another version of the carriage with a regular industrial storage cabin.

Motion tracking

This project was also one of my favourites because it gave me the excuse to do something I wanted to do for a long time witch was jump of Penryn Bridge, unfortunately it was an extremely cold winter so the water was freezing. I love this shot as it combines two major parts of my life, the techy animation side and the adrenaline seeker, adventurous side. Every time I watch this it reminds me of the fun I had filming it with my friends and the fun I had in the studio learning nuke.

Projection Mapping

During this project we had to find somewhere off campus to take a photo of and then create a projection map of. I personally loved this project and got really caught up in it. First I went for a ride on my motorbike around the south end of Cornwall looking for somewhere interesting to photo. I found several places I nearly picked such as a burnt out shop in a small village but in the end I found myself at the most southern place in England, Lizard Point.
I took several pictures from different angles of the old lifeboat deploying station before riding back to campus, I then took the several pictures I took and combined them to make an impossible angle showing the whole station but without any rock face obstructing it. I then added my name in graffiti and by the end you couldn’t tell it was edited.
I believe this would look better if I had some footage of moving water on a image plane for the surface of water although this would prove difficult when it came to the water crashing over the rocks, when the camera moves and the water stays still it instantly becomes obvious that it’s not real.

Currently all I have is the original images I took and a screenshot of the final scen.

Funny In 15

This project I was particularly fond of, it was a great small project with tons of freedom and a short deadline, the only restrictions we had was it had to be less than 15 seconds and it had to make people laugh. We were supposed to work in pairs but I felt more comfortable working alone on such a small task. I found this project challenging as I was in charge of every aspect of its construction, from design to modelling, texturing, rigging, animating, sound and compositing.

Unfortunatly all I currently have are the first two animatics I made before the final.

Movie Title

This has been one of the least successful projects I have worked on, it originally started as a small group of three whereas most groups had four or five, soon after one of our members changed assignment and left us me and one other. Although it was probably achievable to make a good quality finished product within the timescale we made it really difficult for ourselves. We picked a heavy 3D idea although my team mate didn’t really specialise in 3D.
Our idea wasn’t very clear to others or people without a great understanding of Bruce lees life. The transition scene where the tram line of San Francisco turns in to the Great Wall of China seemed to confuse people although this could have been because there was no background
